Entrepreneurs And The Self-Employed Burnout Too

work_stress_burnout

People that aren’t entrepreneurs or have never worked from home may think that it’s easy, relaxing and stress free. But they have it all wrong, as it can be even more stressful to be self-employed. It can also lead to a faster burnout rate, since you are taking on excessive amounts of work.

If you feel there is nothing you can do to escape the horrors of work, you need to look for help. Finding specialized help for your issues can be as easy as finding a specialized referral company that sorts and categorizes professional drug treatment centers based on their specialties and results. Why drug treatment? Often people suffering from burnout will self-medicate with drugs and/or alcohol. Resulting to substances is never the answer, in fact they make things much worse. Talk to someone before your burnout becomes worse and causes you to lose your company or any of your clients.

Organizing Your Work Life

The most important thing that entrepreneurs and freelancers/contract workers need to do in order to avoid burnout is to keep their work lives organized, and separate from their home lives. For those that work from home this can be very difficult to do if you don’t put some barriers into place.

Your barriers should help you separate work from home life. If you are a busy entrepreneur, don’t bring your work home with you. If you work from home, make sure that you set up a specific place to work, a home office. Keep your work in that area and don’t spread it out into the rest of your home.

You also want to treat working from home like you would any other job. Have a start time, map out time for certain projects, and get dressed in the morning before you start work. yes, many people work at home because they want the comfort of a recliner and they want to wear their pajamas all day, but if you want to be successful you need to treat it like you would any other job.

Dealing With The Burnout

Even the best laid plans sometimes go wrong. If you don’t organize your work life, have something happen that takes you away from work and causes you to fall behind, or you simply take on too much (easy to do for both entrepreneurs and full-time freelancers), burnout can set in quickly and it can really cause havoc to your home and work life.

Some of the signs that you may be on your way to a burnout include constant feelings of exhaustion, a feeling like nothing is worth it anymore, every day is overwhelming, and you often feel as though you just can’t have a good day anymore. Once you’ve realized that you are burning out you can start to do something about it.

For some people a nice vacation is all they need to get back on track, especially if burnout is a new thing for them and they only just started to feel its effects. That’s not enough for everyone, and work burnout can have some very negative side effects on overall health. It can lead to stress, which can lead to heart disease, exhaustion, and other health problems.
